KNYGHT from Rome, Italy are playing typical demo/independent sounding AOR/Melodic Rock, so nowhere near the high level of FRONTIERS RECORDS releases. However, bare in mind, this 2002 formed band has members who were not even born when this kind of music was at it’s peak, because the 5 members were born in the late 1980s, making them teenagers nowadays, so we are dealing here with a teenager band and for that being, this 5 tracks counting CD is sounding quite nice. Songs like “Stop me” and “Neverland” are nice uptempo 80s type of AOR/Melodic Poprockers, which sound nice and catchy, although vocally not as strong as this genre demands. However for a bunch teenagers they are doing it remarkable well and it will only be a matter of time before we can see something much better sounding. So not as good as STURM UND DRANG from Finland, whom are even younger than KNYGHT, but nevertheless they bring us interesting 80s AOR/Melodic Rock on their mini-CD ‘Destination unknown’, with as highlight the semi AOR ballad “The believer”. [ESP]Knyght es una joven banda italiana que presenta su demo "Destination Unknown". Si bien los integrantes del quinteto romano llevan reunidos unos cinco años, el mayor de ellos no sobrepasa los veinte años de edad, lo que indica que los chicos llevan gestando este proyecto desde la adolescencia.

"Destination Unknown" es un demo que demuestra las influencias clásicas de Tommy y compañía. AOR de la escuela de bandas como Journey o Boston harán las delicias de los seguidores de este género musical. El disco en sí es bastante compacto y no hay un tema que destaque por sobre los demás. Acá el pero va obviamente hacia la producción pero eso es algo entendible.

"Stop Me" es una descarga de energía tremenda donde Olly y Doc principalmente, hacen gala de todas sus aptitudes musicales. Así sucesivamente van cayendo los temas de este demo que deja un buen sabor de boca, y que invita a esperar un gran disco cuando lo graben en las mejores condiciones.

Background
A decade ago, new bands were plying their trade and gaining exposure on mp3.com. You've often heard us talk about the old version of mp3.com, which up until 2001 was a great site. Now it sucks big time, but of course, new bands wanting to get their foot in the door need only go to MySpace.com to draw the bees to the honey. And so it is with Italian pretenders Knyght, who at very tender ages admittedly have a long way to go to make it in this business. But where best to start than to chuck some music out to the hungry hordes, which is exactly what they've done with their self-released EP 'Destination Unknown'. These Rome natives mix a little glam with hard rock, and though the image and relative youth sees them very much in the now, you can tell these boys have a record collection that contains music long before they were born!

The Songs
The band have a few things in their favour. Firstly, the Queen and Bon Jovi reference points. Secondly the use of keyboards is always (in my books) a good thing. Now, the not so good. Bon Jovi from 1984 to 1989 is excellent. BJ from 1990 onwards is a waste of space in my opinion. Leave the cowboy hats and boots at home boys, and go back and take a listen to Bon Jovi's 1984 debut album.. Use that as your reference point. Should you choose to undertake that mission, I will reinvestigate your future songs with interest! The use of keys is good, so long as they are located in the mix correctly. They should be used for color, not for domination. Most good bands that come out of Europe do so with an excellent vocalist with no hint of a local accent. Steve Lee of Gotthard is an excellent example, but there are many others too. Use them as a reference too. As for the songs, Knyght deliver five outings. Opener 'Stop Me' is probably the best tune on offer. A good mix of guitar power and interlaced keys, though I found the overall mix quite loud when compared to the other four tracks. 'Neverland' is the band's 'happy rocker' tune. It's more of a guitar rocker with less reliance on keys, though the piano sneaks through in the mix. 'The Believer' has an epic feel to it, but has identity issues.. does it want to be a semi-ballad or an angst driven rocker? I'm not sure.. 'I'll Live In Your Shadow' cuts across numerous styles, and again, it has its influence in the 70's I feel. The tappy piano dominates 'Destination Unknown'. It has a definite 70's glam touch, which will appeal to Queen and Moot The Hoople fans.

In Summary
This quintet will have no problems attracting members of the opposite sex to their stageroom door. Whether they'll find the time to get out on stage with adoring blondes and brunettes in tow remains to be seen. Admittedly, this EP is the first step along the way, and by having something physical in the hand (a CD), they should be able to improve musically and (perhaps) lyrically as well. For Glory Daze readers, Knyght might be an acquired taste, and it's not totally AOR nor melodic hard rock, but it's a start, and the journey will be long.. welcome to the world of rock n roll boys!

Die italienische band KNYGHT formierte sich im Jahre 2002. Zu dieser Zeit waren die einzelnen Musiker gerade mal 13 – 16 Jahre alt. Schon ein Jahr nach der Gründung wurde das erste Demo aufgenommen und es beinhaltete 6 Coverversionen von Bon Jovi, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd und Bob Dylan. Im Jahre 2004 erreichten sie beim „Emergenza Rock“ sogar das Halbfinale. Ebenso spielten sie bei einigen Festivals und genau bei diesen nahmen sie eine Live-CD auf. 2005 waren ihnen die Coverversionen wohl zu langweilig, denn sie schrieben die ersten beiden eigenen Songs („Tell Me Why“ und „The Believer“). Diese Songs brachten ihnen einen größeren Durchbruch, denn sie hielten sich 4 Monate auf Platz 1 auf dem Internet-Portal IAC.com (independent Artist Company). Die Erfolgsstory setzte sich fort, aber es kam dann auch zu Umbesetzungen, die sie aber sehr gut wegsteckten. Im Mai 2007 enterten KNYGHT das Risonanze Studio in Rom um ihr neues „Destination Unknown“ Demo aufzunehmen. Die 5 Songs, welche dem melodischen Rock zugeordnet werden können, klingen sehr interessant, frisch und unbekümmert. Dies bemerkten auch die amerikanischen Medien, denn auch in Amerika wurden die Demos verkauft. Sie erhielten sogar Airplay bei 25 Radiostationen in Kalifornien. Da SLAM ROCKS!.com [ITA]

Giovanissimo combo proveniente dalla capitale nato nel 2002 che si affaccia sulla scena con un demo di 5 pezzi e con il brano "Stop Me" inserito nella compilation americana chiamata "Glam Nation" insieme a gruppi come Molotow, Hollywood Vampires, Lipstixx 'N' Bulletz, Leaded Fuel, Silver Dirt, Panzer Princess, ecc.
Autori di un melodic rock che si rifa' a band come Bon Jovi, Gotthard, Europe, Danger Danger e per certi versi anche Queen, i Knyght non brillano molto per originalita' e "Destination Unknown" viene anche un po' penalizzato da una resa sonora non all'altezza, due aspetti sul quale il gruppo dovra' in futuro lavorare vista la loro giovane eta' e le - buone - idee non mancano.
La formazione romana può gia' offrire discreti momenti agli estimatori del rock melodico e possiede una solida base di partenza per procedere sulla giusta strada, specialmente se riusciranno a 'correggere' quei piccoli dettagli accennati qui sopra.

Il piacere di una notizia non ne preclude l'apprezzamento gratuito. Quindi, che si separino pure le due cose: tema e svolgimento. La buona notizia è infatti il piacere che si può provare ascoltando ragazzi meno che ventenni cimentarsi con sonorità di sano rock a stampo americano, classicamente proposto secondo gli schemi di melodie in levare e distorsioni anni settanta. Ciò che invece lascia appena più perplessi è la riuscita del prodotto, più che discutibile ma nel complesso frutto di buone intenzioni. Se infatti gli spunti sono più che apprezzabili, con motivi affatto banali e strumentali di buon gusto (efficaci le parti di tastiera e chitarra), manca probabilmente un buon direttore di orchestra che misceli il tutto, capace di dar vita ad un prodotto completo in grado d'essere proposto al mercato. Cinque tracce d'intuizioni azzeccate quindi, da prendere come tali attendendo simpatici omini in cravatta.

Da NO RESPECT [ITA]

Giovanissima band romana di età media al di sotto dei vent’anni. Sia il titolo che la copertina lasciano intuire una smodata passione per Bon Jovi ed infatti le cinque tracce non smentiscono l’impressione iniziale. Passata l’usuale trafila di assestamento oggi i Knight sono Tommy (voce) e Olly Forni (chitarra), Francesco The Doc (tastiere), Dario (basso) e Paolo (batteria). Suonare AOR a vent’anni può essere un’arma a doppio taglio, essendo il genere “Adult” per definizione. Loro se la cavano, specie a livello tecnico/musicale dimostrano già buone capacità e conoscenza della materia. La riserva è, ahimè, sulla voce di Tommy. Storicamente l’AOR può vantare veri giganti della voce e quindi al momento il paragone rimane impietoso, ma so ( ho i miei informatori … ) che già notevoli miglioramenti sono stati fatti in un paio d’anni e allora su queste basi non resta che darci dentro, d’altronde se c’è una cosa che gioca a favore dei Knight è proprio il fattore “Adult”! Quanto sono importanti le armonie vocali in un genere come l’hard melodico? E una produzione veramente nitida ed equilibrata? Moltissimo, direi.
E se un gruppo dedito a questo genere, pur denotando un notevole gusto estetico nelle partiture e negli arrangiamenti, non riesce a rendere le prime troppo precise (né particolarmente contagiose, a dire la verità) e si esprime tramite un Cd con parecchi difetti nella seconda, alla fine rischia di veder vanificato quanto di buono fatto in sede strumentale e compositiva.
E’ quello che accade ai Knyght, quintetto laziale giunto al secondo demo, un lavoretto assai improntato alla melodia (con le tastiere che offrono un significativo contributo) e potenzialmente piuttosto intrigante, ma purtroppo abbastanza deficitario sia dal punto di vista canoro, sia nell’incisività della resa sonora.
Trattandosi di un dischetto dimostrativo, senza nulla togliere alle “colpe” produttive, analizziamo innanzi tutto la componente vocale, chiamando inevitabilmente in causa la prova del singer Tommy: il ragazzo non ha una di quelle laringi particolarmente “esplosive”, il suo tipo di timbro non è esattamente uno dei miei preferiti (fin troppo “efebico”, però sono opinioni squisitamente personali!) e anche a livello interpretativo c’è ancora un po’ da lavorare, ma sarebbe ingeneroso attribuirgli troppe responsabilità individuali. Sono le armonizzazioni e i cori a non funzionare completamente a dovere, e se aggiungiamo qualche piccola carenza nella compattezza generale della band, ecco spiegato perché “Destination unknown” non raggiunge la sufficienza.
Questo non significa, come anticipato, che i Knyght non abbiano dei meriti.
La passione per questo stile musicale non eccessivamente “trendy”, è, infatti, autentica e vitale, cosa che consente ai nostri di realizzare canzoni di discreto spessore complessivo, mettendo in campo una “stoffa” ancora un po’ grezza e tuttavia di pregio, che appare assai evidente nella costruzione della vivace “Stop me” (scelta per essere inclusa nella compilation “Glam nation”, edita dalla californiana 272 Records) o ancor di più nell’attraente architettura di “The believer” (riproposta dal demo precedente), nella delicata “I’ll live in your shadow” e nella gradevole title-track.
Sono molto giovani e con l’esperienza (e una produzione all’altezza) non potranno che migliorare …

Rumors of a Glam compilation began circulating the Internet about six months ago. Finally, 272 Records has released Glamnation Volume 1, featuring 23 songs from as many different bands. All bands are unsigned and Glamnation Volume 1 acts as a sort of modern-day showcase for multi-national acts to get airplay.

The Glam bands come from all over the globe, and of course Sweden is well represented as is the U.K.

Glamnation Volume 1 closes with Knyght’s “Stop Me.” This band is unique for a variety of reasons. First, Knyght spell their name in accordance with Olde English. Second, they use a whole lot of synthesizers and end up sounding more like Duran Duran than Danger Danger, and finally the lead (male) singer sounds like Blondie. The track is short, and somehow this perfect storm of nonsense actually works to create a good sound. The producers of Glamnation Volume 1 did an excellent job of finding the best unsigned talent in the Rock world.

Giovanissimi questi KNYGHT, ci trasmettono fin da subito l’entusiasmo di chi con la musica ha progetti seri. Band all’attivo dal 2002, portano a compimento il loro primo lavoro solo nel 2006, “Here lies rock’n’roll”, una fatica che sprigiona uno spirito da rockettari anni Ottanta. Spudorata ed evidente l’ispirazione al grande Bonjovi dei tempi d’oro, sia nei testi che nelle composizioni melodiche. Ne è una prova la song “The believer”, che ricorda in modo esplicito la “I believe” bonjoviana: e se il successo sarà lo stesso, le prospettive già son buone, dato che il brano è stato inserito in una compilation di artisti emergenti prodotto da La Sana Records di Milano, e ancora prima reggeva la vetta delle classifiche del sito IAC.com (Indipendent Artist Company). Lavoro un po’ grezzo e tutto sommato da migliorare sotto l’aspetto più tecnico, presenta comunque delle buone prospettive per il futuro.
Forse poco personale e troppo ispirato ai “grandi” il lato compositivo, rischia di togliere alla band le effettive capacità del gruppo, che dovrebbe seguire meno la scia del successo altrui per trovare la propria strada. Un po’ ancora frutto acerbo, che con la dovuta maturazione porterà alla luce dei buoni risultati e, chissà, anche un po’ di sano rock vecchio stile con sfumature moderne.

Il progetto è ottimo, buona la traccia 1 e 3 (born to burn e the believer ndr).

Interessante l'uso dei cori (raro nelle bands attuali).

Rispolverate il modo dei Bay City Rollers e post Beatles in chiave rock e sound moderno è sicuramente una chiave che vi distingue nella marea di bands simili tra loro.

Buona la voce, caratteristica per timbro e espressione, sicuramente interessante per certi circuiti live.

Essendo un buon prodotto è necessario che certe imperfezioni della base ritmica siano corrette (almeno su cd).

Piu' precisione nell'esecuzione non guasterebbe.

Il cantante curi l'intonazione in certi passaggi.
